Mahabubnagar bus tragedy: 8 more bodies to be identified

  

Wife of M.Phani Kumar, who died in the bus mishap, is inconsolable. 

Eight victims of the Volvo bus tragedy at Palem in Mahbubnagar district are yet to be identified, while the identity of 34 other victims has been established after DNA test, said Assistant Collector V. Vijayaramaraju.

Of the 34 bodies, 19 were handed over to relatives at the Osmania General Hospital (OGH) mortuary.

Forty-five passengers lost their lives in the accident on October 30.

While three bodies were handed over to the families concerned at the spot after identifying them with the help of a gold chain, pendant and an ID card, the remaining 42 bodies are preserved at the morgue for DNA test.

The victims’ relatives provided samples to officials at the Andhra Pradesh Forensic Science Laboratory to identify the bodies. “We will try to complete the process within three days,” Mr. Vijayaramaraju said.

PIL filed

Meanwhile, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed in the A.P. High Court, seeking comprehensive inquiry into the recent bus accident in Mahabubnagar wherein 45 people were burnt alive.

The case papers on behalf of the petitioner, Raju, were submitted to the registry. The registry will number the case and place before the PIL cases on a designated day.

The petitioner sought action against private bus operators violating the conditions of permit and wanted compensation to be paid to the victims’ kin.

Compassionate appointment was also sought for. The petitioner reminded that barely five months ago, a private bus, which was going to Shiridi, met with an accident.

He sought a similar package for the families of victims of that accident, too.
