The Krrish crush
Even as their ambitious new release Krrish 3 crossed the Rs.100-crore mark on Monday, Hrithik Roshan and Vivek Oberoi stepped out in public to greet fans at a few major single-screen cinemas in Mumbai and also gauge the popular reaction to the film at these theatres.
Going by the response that Hrithik in particular garnered at central Mumbai's iconic Maratha Mandir as well as Chandan Cinema, Krrish 3 has won over the masses.
Figures prove the fact. After a monstrous opening weekend earning (Rs.72.8 crore), the collection of Krrish 3 was rocksteady on day four as well with Monday taking in approximately Rs.35 crore.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh said this was the highest number recorded for a film on a Monday. Most in the trade have predicted that Krrish 3 will easily scale the Rs.200-crore mark, making it one of the biggest blockbusters this year.
Monday's single- screen round- up saw Hrithik waving at the humongous crowd at Maratha Mandir and distributing free music CDs even as a nearmob situation arose. The scene was no different at Chandan where Hrithik dropped by along with Vivek, who plays the villain in the film. The two stars were ecstatic to hear the audience clap and whistle all throughout the film. At both theatres, every fan seemed desperate to shake hands with their superhero, or at least touch him. Hrithik smilingly met the cheering crowds. At Maratha Mandir, he even climbed on a terrace to get a better view of the burgeoning crowd and throw CDs at them.
While Krrish 3 was always expected to do good business at the multiplexes, its packed- house performance in singlescreen cinemas has been a revelation.
According to industry experts Tuesday too, started off on a positive note with major bookings at single screens.
Krrish 3 has been doing good in the international market as well. Its overseas collection over the weekend was recorded at Rs.23 crore approximately.
This makes the worldwide collection Rs.132 crore approximately.
Hrithik and co-star Vivek Oberoi were mobbed when they went to greet fans at some single- screen theatres in Mumbai on Monday.
