In rain-soaked AP, Srikakulam bears the brunt

All the areas, including towns, mandals and villages in Srikakulam district have turned into rivers with the no relief from rains for the last one week.
The rains, which started on last Monday, continued on Sunday too, making the lives of 26 lakh people in this district miserable. Fortunately, there was no human loss but people are suffering due to non availability of food, drinking water and electricity.
The condition of patients in hospitals is worsening with no prospect of getting medical aid. The government appointed 126 medical teams but they are not in a position to move due to floods.
Srikakulam town received 213 mm of rain till 8.30 am. Ranasthalam mandal was inundated with 222 mm rain fall followed by Ponduru with 155.6 mm. The situation was serious in Laveru, Etcherla and other areas too. Bad weather conditions subsided in Tekkali division, which was hit severely with the rains.
District Collector Saurabh Gaur on Sunday morning reviewed the situation and said that the flood threat would recede if rains subsided in Tekkali division.
Vamsadhara, Nagavali, Bahuda, Mahendratanaya rivers are in full spate on Sunday, but the situation was under control following evacuation of people from 500 villages.
Vehicular movement was completely stopped on Chennai-Kolkata national highway. Trains movement was also disrupted totally due to damage to the track in Itchapuram and other places.
